Quick answer

How do you apply for a South African visa or permit?

Inside South Africa, visa and permit applications are made online and then submitted in person with biometrics at a VFS Global centre, which forwards them to the Department of Home Affairs for a decision. Outside South Africa, you usually apply at a South African mission or its VFS centre. Every category has a prescribed document list, and incomplete applications are a leading cause of refusals – which is the gap we close.

02Requirements

What to have ready for your consultation

Do not worry if you do not have everything yet – part of our job is telling you what is missing.

Bring or WhatsApp these

Copies are fine
  • Passport bio-data pageRequiredAnd any current or previous South African visa labels
  • Current visa or permitIf applicableWith the expiry date clearly visible
  • Any refusal lettersIf applicablePrevious outcomes change the strategy
  • Marriage, birth or relationship documentsIf applicableFor spousal, relative's and family applications
  • Job offer, contract or acceptance letterIf applicableFor work and study visas
  • Proof of fundsRequiredRecent bank statements or sponsor documents

Requirements are set by the Immigration Regulations and Home Affairs and can change. We confirm the current list for your exact category at your consultation.

03Avoid refusals

The mistakes we fix most often

Wrong category

Applying for a visa you do not qualify for – or one that does not allow what you plan to do – leads straight to refusal.

Incomplete packs

A single missing certificate or unsigned form can mean a rejection and starting again.

Expired clearances

Police and medical reports must be within their validity period on the day you submit.

No explanation for gaps

Overstays, gaps in employment or previous refusals need to be addressed openly in the motivation.

04Fees

What does a visa or permit application cost?

No fixed packages – fees reflect the real complexity of your matter, and you always know the cost before you commit.

There is no fixed price list on this site on purpose. The work behind a visa or permit application depends on your category, your family, your paperwork and your history in South Africa, so a one-size price would either overcharge simple cases or under-prepare complex ones.

Your consultation is a paid, in-depth session with an experienced consultant – not a sales call. The consultation fee is confirmed when you book, before anything is charged, and you leave with real answers whether or not you go ahead with us. If you want us to handle the application, that work is quoted in writing before it starts. Government (Department of Home Affairs) and VFS Global fees are separate, set by them and paid directly.

Not sure you need a consultation? WhatsApp a short question to 072 561 3097 and we will tell you honestly whether you do. If a simple renewal is all you need, we will say so.

What your consultation gives you

  • A full review of your documents and immigration history
  • The exact visa or permit route we recommend, and why
  • A personalised document checklist you keep
  • Honest risks and realistic timelines – stated up front
  • A written quote for any application work, with no obligation

What shapes the fee for your case?

Visa category

A visitor's visa extension is far simpler than a business visa or permanent residence.

Number of applicants

Spouses, children and dependants each need their own documents and forms.

Document readiness

Whether certificates, clearances, translations and apostilles are already in hand.

Case history

Previous refusals, overstays, undesirable status or a change of status add work.

Urgency

Tight deadlines – such as a 10-working-day appeal window – need priority handling.

Independent consultancy. Immigration Galore SA CC is a private immigration consultancy. We are not the Department of Home Affairs or VFS Global. Decisions are made by Home Affairs, and no consultant can lawfully guarantee an outcome – what we guarantee is a complete, correct and well-motivated application.

05How it works

From first question to final outcome in 5 steps

One consultant guides your case from the first conversation to the decision letter.

  1. Book your consultation

Call, WhatsApp or send the form to book. In your consultation we review your full situation and documents, and tell you honestly which visa or permit route fits – and whether you qualify.

  2. Written route & document list

You get a personalised checklist for your exact category, with notes on certificates, translations, clearances and the order to collect them in.

  3. Fee agreed before work starts

Because no two cases are the same, we quote your professional fee in writing once we understand the complexity. Government and VFS fees are shown separately.

  4. Pack prepared & checked

We draft motivation letters and forms, check every page against the Immigration Regulations and book your VFS Global appointment.

  5. Submit, track & follow up

We track the application with VFS and Home Affairs, answer requests for more information and explain the outcome – including next steps if you need to appeal.

09FAQs

Visa & Permit Application FAQs

Straight answers to the questions our clients ask most.

Do I need an immigration consultant to apply for a visa?

No – anyone may apply directly. Clients use us because the requirements are detailed, refusals cost time and money, and an overstay while waiting can have serious consequences. We make sure the application is right before it is submitted.

Where are South African visa applications submitted?

Inside South Africa, applications are submitted with biometrics at a VFS Global visa centre, which sends them to the Department of Home Affairs for adjudication. Outside South Africa, you apply through the South African mission or its VFS centre.

Can you submit my application for me?

You must attend your VFS appointment in person for biometrics. We prepare and check the complete pack, book the appointment, tell you exactly what to bring and track the application afterwards.

How long does a visa or permit take?

It depends on the category and Home Affairs workload – from a few weeks for some temporary visas to many months for permanent residence. We give you a realistic estimate at the start.

What happens if Home Affairs asks for more documents?

We help you gather the requested documents and respond within the deadline given, so the application is not refused for non-response.

What if my application is refused?

You may appeal under Section 8 of the Immigration Act, usually within 10 working days of receiving the refusal. We analyse the refusal reasons and prepare the appeal – see our appeals service.

Do you help clients outside Gauteng or abroad?

Yes. Most of the work is done by phone, WhatsApp and email, so we assist clients across South Africa and those applying from abroad.

What does it cost?

Every case is different, so our professional fee is quoted in writing after your consultation. Government and VFS fees are separate.
